Richard Bagdonas | Bernie Conrad Untitled Exhibit
Gallery One at the Museum is giving honor to a photographer and a sculptor who
for years have consistently exhibited their high quality work in the museum and
the gallery.
Richard Bagdonas, "I'm not in the habit of manipulating my photos
but in this show I could not help myself... It's canvas you know...I art therefore I
am".
Bernie Conrad, "I enjoy the 'all- or- nothing' aspect of carving. It is a pure art
form of subtraction. The sculpture forges ahead only by taking more away- there
is no going back or replacing. This can be very humbling at times as the work in
progress gets tossed into the wood stove.
Artists will be at the gallery for First
Friday. |

Jack & Judy Kendall A Journey Through Nature
Come and join us at Evangel Christian Bookstore this First Friday in August for a
fun time. We will be presenting Jack and Judy Kendall with "A Journey Through
Nature". Jack was born in Michigan and came to Grants Pass sixteen years ago
by way of Washington State. Initially, their interest was to record surrounding
beauty just for personal enjoyment, but over time it became a way of sharing with
friends who were at a distance. They soon realized that there might be others
who would enjoy the beauty they had come to enjoy so much.
They will be
displaying both prints and greeting cards featuring some of the incredible natural
beauty that is so abundant in our area of the Northwest.
Also joining us will be
Roman Watson and his band. They are a great group of guys who are on the
worship team at Edgewater Christian Fellowship. They will be entertaining us
with wonderful praise and worship music. |

Paul Showalter The Exact Opposite!
Come meet a guy that "dreams up paintings while he works, and works up dreams while he paints." Paul Showalter has dedicated his life to natural resource and land management. Paul is also an accomplished carpenter, wood carver, furniture maker, watercolor, and pen-and-ink artist. His passion about natural resources is reflected in his art. He revels in teaching children the value of nature and sustainable land use through art and hands-on experiences.
Paul's unique style resembles a hybrid between Impressionist and Pacific Northwest Native American art, infused with a constant denominator of bold, brilliant, inviting color combinations. His technique is un-arguably distinct, and he describes it as “the exact opposite of what they tried to teach me in Art school!” |

Margaret Valvo Watercolors
Margaret grew up on the pine barrens and sandy beaches of southern New Jersey. She studied art history at Wilson College in Pennsylvania. In 1967 she moved to Rhode Island where she started her family, raced sailboats, taught preschool, and studied special education at Rhode Island College. In 1978 she moved to Boulder, Colorado where she taught special needs children and later studied and taught cultural anthropology at the University of Colorado. In 1998 she left “city life” to raise alpacas on a ranch in Fort Collins. She moved to Grants Pass in 2004 and took up watercolor in 2010.
This watercolor exhibit represents Margaret’s progression from her beginning realism, illustrated by a series of World War II planes done for her grandson Tyler; and continues through a loosening of her style in floral, still life and coastal scenes. Freedom and flow are evident as she now moves into abstraction, in her “Cosmic Wave” and “Matrix’ series, which explores the creation and manifestation of life forms from the “ground” of potential. |
