Bird uses a complex layered narrative of mythology, ritual, and connection with ancestors, animals and land to create images that reflect the beauty he sees in the world.
In the conference room…
The Rogue Community College Literary Magazine Club will be presenting its latest volume of Rogue’s Gallery, a collection of local art, literature, music, and poetry. Resident horror author D.L. Snell will be signing his first novel, Roses of Blood on Barbwire Vines, which features mutating zombies, desperate vampires, and helpless humans.

Make no mistake, these are not your grandmother’s traditional quilts. The works in “Transformations: Artists working with fiber” speak in many different voices of contemporary quilt makers. Some explode with color and excitement, while others are subtle and quiet. Some depict the strong passions of the quilter, while others are instructive.
Grants Pass Museum of Art is honored to be chosen as one of only three venues in the United States, along with Denver and Chicago, to host this international juried show by the Studio Art Quilt Associates.
St. Anne's School Youth groups of Strings, Classical Guitar and Recorder will perform throughout the evening.

We are extremely pleased to host a major one-person show by California artist Christos Spontylides. Christos’ works in a variety of media and styles and has won top awards for both his drawings and paintings in regional, national and international competitions. This show will feature many new works by this exciting young artist. Come by the Harper-Howell for the opening of Christos’ show between 6 and 9 on Friday June 1, 2007. Meet the artist, enjoy complementary light refreshments and the live music of the Tim Wallace band. In addition many new works by more than 30 outstanding local and regional artists will be on display.

First Friday brings you through a singular outlet for Fair Trade goods. The Creative Alternative. It is the only ALL FAIR TRADE shop between San Francisco/ Berkley and Portland. The shop is a member of the Fair Trade Federation. This assures the owners and buyers that all the goods were bought at a fair and equitable wage based on the economy in the country of origin. Jim Johnson’s section of June’s show, based on the theme of “Bravery and Courage” is in the back room. Jim was a contractor before a near fatal illness left him a quad amputee. In this show, you will see works done before and after Jims amputations. The second artist will be Samuel Santi, one of our local artists. This month we are featuring art work from Lincoln Savage Middle School. Students will be displaying a variety of artwork from spring classes. This is a sample of various works the 6th, 7th, and 8th graders have been working on. We concentrate on good design,. Value, balance emphasis, color, and texture. Please come by and check out the student art work. Also come in and enjoy gifts for all occasions in our gift store. Beautiful tiffany style lighting, tulip and hand painted lights, San Francisco Music Box Company, hand painted glass from Amia and Joan Baker. Thomas Kinkade and Lena Leu Hand painted music boxes, dolls by some of out famous doll artists from around the world. Rustie, Fayzah Spanos, Marie Osmond and the Ashton Drake truly real newborns.

New Hope Christian Schools will present their “Black, White and Brilliant” artwork in June at the historic Schmidt House and Barn, corner of Fifth and J streets.  Junior high and high school artists will exhibit drawings, paintings and clay sculptures. A reception for the artists is planned from 6 to 8 p.m. A brief tour of the landmark Schmidt House and history lesson is given every First Friday.

Linda World Famous Artist, just back from Seattle where she made the Seattle “Times”. For the first 25 guests a signed copy of the art work that made her “World Famous” in Seattle. Featuring also pottery by Savannah Fyre (beginning in slump form created by candlelight these carved high fire sculptures are made out of recycled clay) Entertainment provided by fusion belly dancer Darby C and Friends.

local artist Irene Stephens. Irene and her family have lived in the Rogue Valley since 1978. She is mostly self taught in clay arts and enjoys working with colors and incised and sgraffito designs. Irene makes both functional stoneware and non-functional raku pieces. This evening, we will also be hosting Rogue Valley Winery at our bar which will be open from 4:00pm to 8:00pm. Come try a fabulous selection of fine Southern Oregon wines!
