Make no mistake; these are not your grandmother’s traditional quilts. The works in “Transformations: Artists working with fiber”
speak in many different voices of contemporary quilt makers. Some explode with color and excitement, while others are subtle and quiet. Some depict the strong passions of the quilter, while others are instructive. Grants Pass Museum of Art is honored to be chosen as one of only three venues in the United States, along with Denver and Chicago, to host this international juried show by the Studio Art Quilt Associates. Don't miss this exciting exhibit which ends July 20th.

Nancy Hall, a cloth doll maker and designer, living in the forest of Selma, Oregon. Her interest in cloth dolls began in 1955 when her daughter began taking ballet lessons and was cast in the Nutcracker. Nancy fashioned a doll sized copy of the costume she wore on stage. For the next seven years dolls were made for each Nutcracker character her daughter potrayed. Ballerina dolls were to be sold at the ballet’s boutique in Santa Barbara CA. Nancy did a lot of reading and was amazed at what could be done. Since then she has made dolls for competitions and fairs. Some of her dolls are original designs and some are made from other patterns. Combined, they compromise the doll-making artistry of Whimsey Doodles.

Maria Kazankaya
“Water & Rocks’
July 9- August 30, 2007
Kazanskaya uses light, uncertain spatial scales, and the duality of realism and abstraction to create an ever-shifting perception of the symbolism carried by rocks and water.
