“Rugged Terrain”
New York artist, Anthony Pontius uses past and present painting techniques as well as written histories to invent his own nostalgic experiences and narratives. He examines imagery, stories and concepts from both the past and present and places them in a shared setting, creating a new yet familiar story.

Alice Covell shows her unique style of colored lithograph photography. Her pieces are numbered and signed selections of photos she has taken and then enhanced them by creating a Currier & Ives style. This creates an old world print look to each piece.

THE CREATIVE ALTERNATIVE

Guest artist Patrick Kelly, a lifelong Grants Pass resident. His collection this month will include wildlife such as eagles, wolves, and owls, among other creatures.

Back to the 50's Celebration! You have got to come up to the Art Museum to see this Classic Car Art by Roy Jones from the Bob Drake Collection! The Grants Pass Museum of Art is honored to host this first comprehensive exhibition of Roy Jone's paintings in conjunction with the Towne Center Association's Back to the 50's Celebration! Roy Jones was first professionally recognized in 1959 when his drawing of a customized '57 Thunderbird was published in Rod & Custom Magazine. But his passion for cars started earlier. His art was commissioned for use by the Ford Motor Company. This exhibit will be from July 24 through September 28th and you don't want to miss it! -----

"More Wine, Please!"
By popular demand our exhibit of commissioned art on the theme "Wine Country, -Vines, Grapes and Wine", is being held over for the month of August. New pieces on this theme by 12 of our favorite artists as well as many new pieces by more than 30 outstanding regional artists will be unveiled Friday, August 3, between 6 and 9 PM. Larry Cavalier will provide the live music and there will be light refreshment too for your enjoyment.

Ashley Alexander: Prints, Collaborative Photos, T-Shirts, Totes & Stationery...Alexander, a Chicago artist, writes: “In children's stories, animals always mean magic... They are wonderful and ordinary...They talk and wear clothes and sometimes they go to school, and so, growing up, surrounded by these sorts of friends, you have the sense that almost anything can happen to you... The older you get, though, the more it seems that all of that magic has gone off, somewhere else maybe."
"I decided to take my artwork off the wall," she explains, "and out of the frame, and to put these images of everyday mysteries onto cards, and handbags, and t-shirts, so that everyone could have something a little bit pretty and a little bit strange to add to their day."

Russ Wittrock’s artistry in oils takes the viewer on an odyssey through the Pacific Northwest, “From the Seashore to Mountaintops,” in this month’s art show at the Josephine County Historical Society. Paintings by Wittrock, a longtime art instructor in Grants Pass and a prolific artist, will hang in both the Schmidt House and Schmidt Barn galleries through August. A reception for the artist is planned from 6 to 8 p.m. during First Friday Art Walk. A brief tour of the landmark Schmidt House is also available.

Kazanskaya uses light, uncertain spatial scales, and the duality of realism and abstraction to create an ever-shifting perception of the symbolism carried by rocks and water. She invites the viewer to seethe water eroding the rocks into sand as a way of contemplating our own existence in the face of eternity.
Summer Hours: 8am-5pm Monday, Tuesday, & Thursday, 8am-7pm Wednesday.
